Why Birth Languages?

After hearing stories of women who were dissatisfied in their experience with childbirth education, we felt compelled to develop a childbirth curriculum that understands the individuality of women and birth. From this desire, Birth Languages was born. It is our intention to not only educate the pregnant woman and her support partner, but to give them the confidence to make informed, educated choices regarding their pregnancy and birth. Pregnancy, labor, and birth are not spectator sports. Mothers should learn to understand their innate ability to birth and partners should be trained in all aspects of support from conception to the first dirty diaper.

Our Birth Philosophies

The Birth Languages Method provides students with evidenced-based information about all aspects of birth. We believe that:

    When allowed to labor naturally and uninterrupted, women will instinctually cope by utilizing their Birth Language: Movement, Touch, Intuition and/or Vocalization.

    Birth is a normal, healthy process.

    Preparing for birth as a couple empowers parents to have the safest, most satisfying birth.

    Birth can serve as a bonding experience that strengthens the couple and family.

    A woman should be able to labor wherever and however she feels safest.

    Learning to work cooperatively with your care provider will help you achieve the safest birth possible.

    Understanding medical options and interventions during labor helps couples to make informed decisions. Preparing for unexpected situations alleviates tension and fear during labor.
